He grew up with it in Kenosha, and then fell in love with it as a customer in Michigan. Now, Antigo businessman Tom Belongia, 33, will bring BIGGBY Coffee to Wausau.
Belongia said customer service will set BIGGBY apart from other coffee shops.
“This company is extremely customer-focused,” Belongia said. BIGGBY strives to wow its customers by knowing them by name and not pushing them through the line too quickly, he said.
But for those in a hurry, Belongia said, the chain trusts its customers enough to offer “skip-the-line” service, which lets people pick up a cup and leave payment ina self-service box.
Belongia said the coffee store also will sell coffee-shop basics such as muffins, scones and danishes. Besides coffee drinks with easy-to-pronounce names, BIGGBY will offer fruit- and other flavored smoothies for those with a sweet tooth.
Construction has begun, and Wausau BIGGBY should be open for businessSept. 8.
Belongia expects to hire about 25 full- and part-time employees.
The East Bridge Street store will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
BIGGBY operates 150 coffee shops in six states, according to the company’s Web site.
