Starting a business in these tough economic times is a challenge.

But for Rob and Karen Cochran, they believe their new venture will prove to be an asset to both them and the community.

The couple has opened a Chem-Dry Carpet Solutions franchise, offering carpet and upholstery cleaning using the latest technology.

Rob worked in the corporate world for 21 years, while Karen has been a stay-at-home mom for 20 years with their three sons.

“As we move toward being empty nesters, we decided to open a business that we could grow into a cornerstone service in Frederick County,” Rob said.

The couple researched potential opportunities for almost eight months before choosing Chem-Dry.

They said Chem-Dry’s hot carbonated extraction process is superior to traditional steam cleaning. Carpets dry in one to two hours with no shrinkage or mildew.

Services also include Chem-Dry Protectant, which can be applied to carpets to form a molecular shield around each fiber; Pet Urine Odor Removal Treatment; and a Healthy Home Package that can include a Dust Mite Anti-Allergen solution and special deodorizer and sanitizer to reduce bacteria below the carpet’s surface.

Chem-Dry has been awarded the Carpet and Rug Institute’s Gold Seal of Approval and has been ranked No. 1 in the industry by Entrepreneur magazine for 19 consecutive years.

“My wife and I have combined our strong work ethic, entrepreneurial focus and desire to combine a superior brand with superior customer service,” Rob said.
