A Post About Children’s Orchard
There has been a comment posted about the Children’s Orchard franchise business in the Every Franchise News section. The comment was posted by “Robert”, an ex-franchisee, and he tells of the sorry state of affairs within the company now since the present owner purchased the franchise chain in late 2004.
“Children’s Orchard, once a proud and growing business with lots of willing and enthusiastic people, has gone from 100+ stores to fifty-one, not the sixty as reported. The shrinkage has come about as a result of Mr. Bond’s greed. Stores have quit or gone out of business because this man has found more and more ways to take money out of franchisees’ pockets and to put the same into his own.”
If true, it is a sad testimony of how the vision of the founders of the company has been lost to greed and perhaps a lack of understanding of how a franchised organization should be run.
Franchising is full of success stories, but of course there are the inevitable failures and everybody who is considering purchasing a franchise should investigate each company in which they are interested thoroughly.
It is an often noted that people who are looking at franchises for sale frequently omit the critical step of talking to existing franchisees to get feedback about the company.
