Quick Service Franchise Restaurants Cater to Entrepreneurs

Quick service restaurants are doing well despite (and perhaps because of) the uncertain economy. In particular, "fast casual" dining - the middle ground between fast food and full service - is emerging as a promising trend for entrepreneurs.

"The concepts that can offer an average ticket price between $7 to &10 are doing really well right now," said Jimmy Davis, a tenant representative with Colliers International. "Concepts that are above the $10 mark seem to be struggling right now - especially in suburban areas, because families don't want to take their three kids to a restaurant and spend 50 bucks when they could just stay home and make something for 20 or less."

Although fast casual customers generally order at the counter, the dining rooms provide an ambiance similar to some full service restaurants. Many fast casual establishments offer wine and beer.

But the economy is not just driving consumers to the quick service concept. Laid off professionals looking for a place to invest their nest eggs are embracing franchise opportunities as a safer way to enter the restaurant industry.

"In the QSR industry, it's extremely beneficial for somebody coming into the business because they don't have to recreate the wheel with their business," said Garth Snider, president of FranchiseOpportunities.com. "They're given brand recognition by the franchiser."
