Two new West Hartford retailers are hoping to cash in on healthier lifestyles.

Robek's Juice, which offers fresh juices and smoothies, moved into their first Greater Hartford location at 967 Farmington Avenue this fall. Earlier this month, vitamin and nutrition supplement shop Max Muscle opened a new store across the street.

For Tom Lynch, a resident of the Center, Robek's has already changed his morning routine.

"Every morning I would head to Dunkin Donuts for a large coffee with plenty of sugar and a donut or two."

Now he's substituting a healthier smoothie and the occasional muffin at Robek's.

Max Muscle, also a first of the franchise in the area, looks to emulate Robek's impact on West Hartford. Max Muscle also offers customers "professional health and nutrition advice," says owner Greg Gworek.

The goal of the first Connecticut location, Gworek said, is to keep the tradition of the franchise on-going by providing a "true passion for health and fitness to a broad range of individuals."

Caelyn Randall, a new customer of Max Muscle, claims she never really thought about taking vitamins or supplements to boost her workout.

"I used to do this au-natural," says Randall, "But I stopped into Max Muscle one day to see what it was about and they answered my questions and since I started shopping there, my workouts seem to be more effective."
