A new deli and Dippin' Dots shop is opening at the former Doodles Bistro location in Parkwest Plaza, 2490 Patterson Road.
West of Philly will open Aug. 7 and serve soup, salad, sandwiches, smoothies, bagels and pastries, plus Dippin' Dots products.
West of Philly's chef, Bill Cline, has a history in fusion cuisine, which he said will be reflected in his salad recipes. He'll also feature a different soup and salad each day and offer paninis, sandwiches and subs.
The deli, which is also a Dippin' Dots franchise member, offered free Dippin' Dots ice cream for a half-hour Friday afternoon. Dippin' Dots founder Curt Jones flew in from Kentucky for the event.
Jones said West of Philly co-owners Steve and Christy Moore and Jessica Lampshire have the right idea in selling the tiny balls of ice cream alongside other menu items. Curt said he's encouraged other Dippin' Dots vendors to sell items that will be popular year-round in addition to selling Dippin' Dots shakes, cakes, floats, sundaes, parfaits and ice cream cups.
"It's not been a banner year for growth with the economy, but I have been visiting franchises," Jones said. "I think that what Jessica's doing is going to be good."
The restaurant will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
