Freedom Lawns USA Inc. Achieves Platinum Level Green Business Certification

Organic-based lawn care company Freedom Lawns of Hampstead, NC has completed the Green Business Bureau's highest level of green business certification. The company recently announced its achievement of Platinum Level Certification.

As a provider of organic lawn and plant care for home and garden and commercial clients, Freedom Lawns has employed green practices since its inception in 1999. More recently, the company decided to expand on its existing measures by joining the Green Business Bureau and following the program's guidelines in the office and other aspects of daily business.

"We have always used products and methods that will have the least impact on the environment, ecosystems and human health," Mark Tamn, Freedom Lawns' president. "We follow a philosophy of reducing the use of pesticides in our business, using organic and natural products versus synthetic chemicals, recycling and conserving energy."

Tamn says that the company chose the Green Business Bureau's certification program over others on the market because of the organization's credibility and because "we felt the Green Business Bureau and its employees demonstrated the most sincere and complete model for a sustainable business."

The Green Business Bureau offers three levels of certification, Aware, Gold and Platinum. To achieve Platinum Level certification, Freedom Lawns accrued 400 points by completing a menu of green initiatives. Tackling these initiatives involved making some adjustments and changes within Freedom Lawns' offices.

"It is always difficult to change the way that you are accustomed to performing certain duties, but once you get used to doing things differently, it becomes second nature," says Tamn. "We made the changes because we wanted to achieve the highest possible level of certification to set us apart from others."
