Baskin-Robbins is looking for local franchisees

Ice cream icon Baskin-Robbins plans to expand in the Washington market.

The company currently has a total of 86 franchise-owned locations in the Washington area, 32 of them are stand-alone stores and the rest are Baskin-Robbins and Dunkin' Donuts combo stores. It expects to open an additional 35 franchise-owned locations here.

Baskin-Robbins says it is actively seeking store developers and is holding a franchise seminar at the Washington Dulles Marriott Suites July 30.

It expects to add the new Washington area locations "over the next few years," according to a company spokesperson.

Baskin-Robbins, best known for its glass enclosed freezers full of buckets of colorful ice creams and sherbets, is also trying new store concepts. It is currently testing something it calls Café 31in the Boston market. The store includes a dessert bar, coffee products and a test kitchen.

It is also looking to expand the BR Express brand, a kiosk design for airports, malls and ballparks.
